IT’S ALL ABOUT THE ART!!!

[GO TO SOUND CAMP INFO]
[GO TO HEART CHAKRA INFO]

This year’s Esthetic Evolution has numerous awesome performance pieces, workshops, art projects and other group activities planned during the main event. We hope attendees take the time to check them out, learn how they relate to our theme and larger ideals, get to know their neighbors, and –of course – HAVE FUN!

As usual, we encourage ALL attendees to create art and theme camps either representing the Event Theme or celebrating their own artistic vision. The only limitation is that we ask you keep your projects courteous and safe. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or special needs to bring your idea to fruition. We are always willing to help. You can contact us at:

SPECIAL SCHEDULED EVENTS:

Opening Ceremony

Like our last few years, we will be having an opening ceremony, taking place at the Root Chakra stage at 10:30 pm on Friday evening. This year’s ceremony will be breaking-in our new 80’ dome with a choreographed chakra-oriented dance and fire routine. Please join us to welcome the event in right and set the mood for the weekend!

Morning Yoga at the Crown Chakra & Evening Yoga at the Heart Chakra

Long-time Esthetic community member Eric Wallace will be hosting a 6:30 am Saturday morning yoga session at the Crown Chakra stage, with musical accompaniment by pr0cess member Beji. Join then for a wonderful way to either start your day or end a long night of dancing. For those of you sleeping through it or thirsting for more, our friend Lael Sokvite from Seattle will lead an evening session at the Heart Chakra space from 5:30-6:30 pm. Both sessions are open to practitioners of all levels. Don’t forget your mats and get ready to re-align those chakras!

Saturday Workshops at the Heart Chakra

We are very pleased to announce that this year’s Esthetic features a third stage, the Heart Chakra, which will host workshops and performances all day Saturday and serve as a chill space and open-mic area at other times. We will have workshops on spinning poi, understanding chakras, radical and non-violent activism, producing music in Ableton, belly-dancing, hula-hooping, pole-dancing and popping-and-locking. Please check the schedule, which will appear on our website, the main bulletin board and at the Heart Chakra space. And feel free to take advantage of the open-mic!

Breakfast with Manos

The festival will be wrapping up with a very special DJ set from our good friend Manos, a veteran NW performer who has become well-known over the last few year’s for his awesome morning sets. Manos will deliver an inspiring mixture of lush IDM and downtempo, trippy techno and deep grooves. Folks from the Seattle sound camp (AKA “Deep Throat”) will be providing light refreshments. We encourage everyone else to bring your leftover food and beverages to share with your friends! Close out your weekend by eating, drinking and being merry! But don’t go trashing the joint, ya hear!

ART GRANT RECIPIENTS

We had many impressive applications for art grants this year and we were able to fund several of them. Some are thoughtful or moving, others are exciting and over-the-top. They are all awesome and will hopefully enhance each partipcant’s event experience in their own unique ways. We have included short excerpts on each below. Please consult our website for more information about these wonderful and inspiring projects.

TransConFigural GreyDation – By HiMay Rivera

Many of our Boise supporters will remember TransConFigural GreyDation from the fundraiser we supported a few weeks ago. We are glad to see the piece, inspired by the artist’s own deeply personal experiences and the Alex Grey work, “Transfiguration,” has come to fruition. We can only fit a brief excerpt in the newsletter, but we suggest everyone go to our website and read its heartfelt story.

Mirroring the colorful sequence of the seven chakras, a red gentle lotus blossoms to an orange figure, surrendering it’s spirit to the ethers revealing new heart’s truth. A wingspan birth’s to “speak” Kingfisher abundance, opening at heron medicine in the third eye. “Walk your true path” the heron says “even if it looks clumsy and foreign to others, as long as you hold integrity in your heart space, you will prevail.” This path of pure honesty allows the owl’s wisdom to crown this regenerative rebirth from the ashes.

Chroma – By Dirk Anderson, Sr
(with support from Thomas Glass, Phd, Randy Wolf, Kaden Sinclair, Evelyn Atchley, Steve Raymond, Patrick Morrison & others)

CHROMA is second in a series of Nike/Valkyrie forms using an antique boiler tank that Dirk was given with the stipulation that it be used to make playa art. The tank is the Chroma “skirt” and a female torso is cast aluminum. The ultimate light source will consist of multiple arc lamps with directed and focused beams. For EE they anticipate having black light LEDs in the center of all of the old hot rivets in the tank and a source for wings of light. Not counting the light, she is about 12 feet tall. She is about feminine beauty, power & incubation of the future of humanity. The piece and the work are created in layers or imagery & process – it is the artists’s desire that those layers are left visible to add to the viewer’s experience.

Seven – By Cowboy & Connie

For each of the seven Chakras, there is a corresponding deadly Sin…using this as inspiration, the artists are creating a pyramidal wooden sculpture that joins together the Chakras & Sins along vertical spires rising over 14 feet above the meadow. A central suspended Chakra/Sin will be filled with participants messages of hope, fear, love, pain, release, reflection, joy…whatever is in your heart that you want cleansed in fire. Seven will be the focus of the burn on
Saturday night in front of the Root Stage. Be sure to visit ‘Seven’ before Saturday night to include your message!

Crown Chakra – By Fairydazy

The Crown Chakra, also known as Sahasrara, is located at the top of the head and is associated with complete Oneness, Unity, Harmony, Guidance & Wisdom. It also brings upon the state of knowing & oneness with the action “We are, We Know.” It has the power of enlightenment, displayed as the “Om” (ॐ) sign. A giant “Om” will stand at the Crown in the meadow. During the day it will illuminate with the sun, giving power to Sahasrara to accomplish the achieved state of Blissfulness & Oneness. At night the shadow will guide one to the achieved state. Flags of the other six chakras will hang at the top to complete the balance we all want to accomplish, having the chakras aligned in perfect harmony.

Chakra Street Signs – By Amanda & Billy Jo Hafterson

This project features street names for our “city” using terms related to the 7 Chakras. Each chakra is easily distinguishable by their colors & the number of “points” their mandala contains. This will once again transform our ordinary meadow into a city-like atmosphere (and lend a hand for those who are lost trying to find their way home to camp). Using a couple different mediums -paint & mosaic- these girls plan to bring some beauty & sophistication to the “ordinary” street sign for this 7th year of Esthetic Evolution.

Teahouse & Garden – by Unitea

Unitea is a nonprofit traveling teahouse based out of Portland, Oregon. They use gong-fu tea ceremony as a means of bringing people together to create community. Thanks to the support of Esthetic Evolution, they’ll be setting up their teahouse & garden at EE for free late night tea parties. Come by for a guaranTEAd good time at the Unitea GaTEAbo where you can be full of TEAce, make cup-anions & be creaTEAve in our plush teahouse.

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES

Ophidia Studio Pole Dancing – By Allison Holley & Crew

Ophidia Studio was conceived in the mind of exotic dancer extraordinaire Allison Holley as a way to get all the fun of PoleDancing in a strip club with none of the groping or cash tips. The studio has been up and running in beautiful scenic Garden City since 2008, and has become a gathering place for freaks doing all kinds of strange and exotic dances like Pole, Zumba, Aerial Yoga & “The Sprinkler.” This is our first year dancing at Esthetic, and we are preemptively moist with excitement for the scintillating experience of performing for such a sophisticated crowd and are Vajazzle(TM)-ing ourselves in feverish preparation.

Ghostpickle – By Ghost & Pickle

Salvatore Licastri (AKA Ghost) has excellent swagger and is mostly on point about all things ART, STYLE & MUSIC. All of this, plus he has been a veteran of the Boise EDM community for over 12 years… Skilled in stenciling and Creepin’.

Nicholas Burgdorf (AKA Pickle) eats & sleeps in America. But Pickle can never know what tomorrow will bring. Excluding, of course, more fortune, glory & best art. He currently makes paintings, comics, flyers, murals & other art related projects.

Together they are GhostPickle! Together they hope to bring a new approach to ART, MUSIC & FASHION to Esthetic Evolution.

SOUND CAMPS

This year, we will have five theme camps that make up some of the chakra points. We are happy to be working with each of these groups and excited to see what they bring to the event! Here’s a brief overview of who they are and what you can expect:

Sacral Chakra – Portlandia – Oregon

This collaborative camp includes groups from all over Portland who’ve come together to create one amazing experience. The type of music here will move away from what you may hear on the other stages, and focus more on an eclectic mix of Downtempo, 80’s, and perhaps even a little polka to fill in the gaps in taste and desire. The camp may feature workshops, hot dogs and other attractions that will play into their Sacral theme. Complete with a dome, lights and their creative vision, this will be a camp that you don’t want to miss!

Solar Plexus Chakra – The Hive Collective – Utah

This sacred hexagonal camp will not disappoint with their array of live painting, VJ, and crafty goodness. Their music will feature …deCay… syn.Aesthetic, morzFeen, Ayisha, Charity Orlean, Cellulloyd, Illoom and many more. Dubstep, Glitch Hop, Midtempo Whamp-e-whamp, Face Bass and Glitch-Step will be some of what you will find at this centrally located camp. Make sure to stop by to check out all of the attractions!

Throat Chakra – Seattle – Washington

Decorated in turquoise, featuring chakra-specific activities like tea ceremonies (for purifying) and music making, this camp will be embracing their chakra point to the fullest. Comminuty-oritneted activities like food prep for Breakfast with Manos will also be on this groups mind. This camp will bring together four Seattle crews: The Compound, Bootyresin, Innerflight and Shameless. A smattering of techno, tech house, acid house, electro, IDM, and all-around progressive forward thinking music will be featured here. Make sure to visit this camp to check out all that they have to offer!

Third Eye Chakra – Audiomedics – Idaho

Mushroom shade structures, Bedouin-style tents and a spiritually-inviting atmosphere make this camp a great place to chill during the day. In addition to Tribal House, Tech House, Progressive, Trance, Psytrance, and Techno, this camp will also have meditation instruction, theramin music, Tibetan singing bowls and a didgeridoo. The lineup will include: Smoke Sign, Ghostwire, Alejandro, Koitz, Sonofsam, Solidstate, Pedro Rolas and many more.

Prana – Camp Biohazard – Idaho

This camp will have lots of local DJ’s playing, along with a few possible out-of-towners. They will be themed around the vital life experience, Prana. Although this is not a chakral point, it is the notion of a vital, life-sustaining force of living beings and vital energy. The music here will range from Tek-Funk to Breaks to Electro to Dub. Locals include 4 Star Generals, Zacklander, Curtis Porter, Aaron Liven, DJ Skape, Ziggy D, Jeff Lynn and more. Come to this camp for a chill out area, complete with tents, couches and great beats!
